Embodied Robotics
As robots grow more sophisticated—exemplified by humanoid robots and autonomous vehicles—the demand for communication bandwidth and real-time performance is increasing exponentially. Optical communication technology has become a key enabling technology for boosting robotic intelligence, primarily manifested in core areas such as high-speed data transmission, interference-immune communication, high-precision positioning and navigation, and multi-sensor fusion.
Massive data streams from high-definition cameras, LiDAR, and IMUs are transmitted via optical links to meet the low-latency requirements of algorithms for SLAM and object recognition. Furthermore, Visible Light Positioning (VLP) utilizes LED light sources for localization, while LiDAR ranging constructs environmental maps, jointly achieving centimeter-level positioning accuracy.
In industrial and medical settings characterized by severe electromagnetic interference (EMI), optical fiber communication remains immune to disturbance, ensuring the stability of control commands and status feedback. Multiple robots can form optical networks to achieve data synchronization and cooperative control, effectively avoiding the congestion and collisions common in wireless systems. Additionally, optical communication is vital for data backhaul in underwater exploration robots, as well as for transmitting high-definition images in endoscopes and surgical robots.
Optical communication provides the "Information Superhighway" for intelligent robotics. It serves as critical infrastructure supporting perception, decision-making, and execution capabilities, proving irreplaceable in scenarios that demand high bandwidth, low latency, and deterministic reliability.
